Jack is good at frightening people, so much so that he is renowned as The Pumpkin King, but he is never actively malicious. It is the catalyst of the entire plot!Īnother problem I see with this theory is that Jack Skellington and The Grinch aren’t very much alike at all. This is what leads him to Christmas Town to begin with. We KNOW why Jack is obsessed with Christmas! Again, he had an entire song devoted to the fact that he is bored out of his skull ( pardon the pun) with the routine of Halloween, longing for something new. This all ties in with a huge problem, which this theory seems to be ignoring. In fact, we get every indication, especially during the leadup of the song “ Jack’s Obsession“, that jack knows very little of Christmas, and we watch him trying to understand it. It’s a world unlike anything I’ve ever seen.Īt no point do we ever get any indication that this is all familiar to him in any way. The whole ” What’s this” scene of the movie is him singing about how new and incredible everything is, being astounded and dazzled by all the strange, pleasant oddities, like Christmas trees and decorations, trying to figure out what it all is! It’s only right at the end that he sees the word Christmas at all! As he puts it himself during the town meeting. But from what we see in the movie, it’s pretty clear that Jack has never seen Christmas before. To begin with, a big problem with this theory is it suggests Jack is obsessed with Christmas because he’s experienced it all before. I see a few pretty glaring problems with this theory… let’s get started. This explains why he becomes so obsessed with Christmas when he revisits Christmas Town.ĭave: Well, there’s also the fact that they both have dogs, which means that Max and Zero are the same dog too!Īlright. And then, after his death, he ends up in Halloween town, becoming Jack Skellington. I think I know where this is going, but for the sake of argument, please explain.ĭave: OK, so you know how the people in Who-Ville are all obsessed with Christmas? Perhaps that is because Who-Ville and Christmas Town are really the same place, and the Grinch ended up there by mistake. You think this time will be any different?ĭave: Yes! Because this theory also crosses over with The Nightmare Before Christmas !Īh yes, because that was also a rousing success… And what is the theory you’ve got for me?ĭave: The theory is that the Grinch and Jack Skellington are the same person! I take it we’re looking at another theory about How the Grinch Stole Christmas? I seem to remember the last time we did that, it didn’t really go that well. But then again, I should be thankful we’re only covering one theory, rather than three…ĭave: Aw, looks like someone’s a bit grumpy today. I was really hoping not to have to deal with any Christmas fan theories this year. The fact that I’m not strangling you right now for trying to spoil my holiday cheer is miracle enough, I think. Oh golly gee willikers, what ever could it be? Could it, by any chance, be a Christmas fan theory?ĭave: Why, yes it is! It’s truly a Christmas miracle! Now, the reason this is unfortunate is not, as one might suppose, that it is taking up time that should be spent making holiday preparations… No, it’s far, far worse.ĭave: Now, now, it is the season to be jolly, and I have a present for you! It is time for the last article of the year, and unfortunately, scheduling has led to it being released on the day before Christmas. Well, God rest ye merry, ladies and gentlemen.
